Story Capture: Preserving Memories with Your Items

Text, audio, and video story capture options that document the history and memories behind your items.

Last updated: 2026-03-30

Every item has a story. Grandmother's rocking chair, Uncle Bill's fishing rod, the kitchen table where the family gathered for fifty Thanksgivings. LegacyLoop's Story Capture services help you preserve those memories, whether you are selling the item or keeping it in the family. Here is how each option works.

AI Text Story Capture (5 credits): Share a few details about the item — who owned it, how long they had it, any special memories — and our AI crafts a beautifully written narrative. The story is attached to the item's listing, making it more compelling to buyers who value provenance. It is also saved in your personal archive for family records.

How to Use Text Story Capture:

  1. Go to the item page and click "Capture Story."
  2. Type or dictate the memories and history you want to preserve. Even a few sentences is enough — the AI expands on it.
  3. Review the AI-written narrative. You can edit it, add details, or request a rewrite.
  4. The story is saved to the item and appears on the listing page.

Audio Story Recording: For items with rich family history, record yourself (or a family member) telling the story in their own voice. The recording is transcribed by AI and also preserved as an audio file. This is especially meaningful for estate items where the stories might otherwise be lost.

Video Story Capture: Record a short video showing the item and telling its story. Perfect for items with interesting features that are hard to describe in text, or for capturing a family member sharing memories on camera.

Digital Archive: All captured stories — text, audio, and video — are stored in your LegacyLoop archive. You can access them anytime from the /archives page. Stories can be exported as PDFs, included on a USB keepsake drive, or printed as a family history booklet.

Why Stories Matter for Selling: Listings with stories sell for 15-25 percent more than identical items without stories. Buyers, especially collectors and antique enthusiasts, value provenance — knowing where an item came from and what it meant to someone. A story transforms an object from "used dish set" into "a family heirloom from 1960s Maine."

Tip: If you are handling an estate sale, sit down with family members and record their memories about the most significant items before listing them. These stories are irreplaceable once the people who remember them are gone.
